  29. Made Oculus Rift CUBES today.
  30. I feel like the best bit of the Oculus is that you strap a screen to someone's eyes and they can't look away, not the VR bits.
  31. …in reply to @ADAMATOMIC
@ADAMATOMIC @doougle Ah-haha -- that's definitely on the list to investigate. 3D is pretty cool for CUBES, though.
  32. …in reply to @ADAMATOMIC
@ADAMATOMIC @doougle The 3D bit is nice in that it makes everything look like polygons again, too.

  44. …in reply to @LewieP
@LewieP but the current version is really quite effective, even without the need to be constantly craning you head round, like most OR games

@dgrey0 to be fair, I was there since last Saturday. So not quite so action packed as all that.

  104. This code I am writing is magical as hell.
  105. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN magic is a really useful concept when programming. it's code that does things by means that are not at all apparent.
  106. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_%28programming%29 -- but I'm doing it to provide a concise way to script dialogue, with the logic hidden.
  107. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN Of course, hiding the logic means that I'm torturing it a fair bit - variables are invisibly assigned, etc.
  108. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN that's the hope! I did consider actually writing a full on DSL, but then sanity prevailed.
  109. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN @RobertWalter83 Does it work with Unity? I would be interested to see it, either way!
  110. There a way to find missing scripts on SciptableObjects #unity3d?
  111. …in reply to @fastramdesign
@fastramdesign like, I have a ScriptableObject asset, which references a script, and then the script is deleted, and now it says "Missing"
  112. …in reply to @fastramdesign
@fastramdesign well, actually I want to just delete the ScriptableObject -- there's one per script containing Dialogue.
  113. …in reply to @RobertWalter83
@RobertWalter83 I'm not, I've just mangled coroutines to get it looking nice. Similar logical structure, though.
  114. …in reply to @nachimir
@nachimir I am imagining you toiling away, surrounded by golden waves of swaying men. And other things, also made of men.

@resiak @whitingjp beautiful! I think I'll switch to that, then.
  127. …in reply to @kierongillen
@kierongillen getting a critical mass of artists means negotiating with labels. Spotify sold about 25% of their shares to labels for nothing
  128. …in reply to @kierongillen
@kierongillen honestly, I think the bandcamp model is a better fix.

@samusclone Oh, I hope this is the case, and that they succeed! One thing I want to happen, but is hard, is showing non-gamers indie games.
  159. …in reply to @MIDImyers
@samusclone (which sucks, as it means great games that gamers tribally hate die because you need to win over the core audience to reach non)
  160. …in reply to @MIDImyers
@samusclone But maybe the Ouya can do important work in that direction. I really hope so.
  161. …in reply to @MIDImyers

  205. This fucking porn filter is such a stupid idea. It's clearly going to both let porn through, and block things that aren't porn.
  206. Like, some stuff I enjoy looking at on the Internet, even I don't know if they're porn or not. So how an algorithm has any hope, idk...
  207. Or, the way that it presumably ignores the existence of "https" (unless it just blocks on a domain level, I guess, but that's stupid)

@RC_1290 Thanks for the tip about loading the scene at runtime to get it to show in the Profiler, though, I hadn't thought of that.

  243. It looks like Loading.ReadObject is loading every referenced Prefab of the scene, which is Too Much...
  244. …in reply to @jonbro
@jonbro yeah, everything is on the screen to start. But it looks like it's loading prefabs just referenced in memory in then, too.
  245. …in reply to @jonbro
@jonbro Yeah, that's what I mean. Looks like Resources.Load is my best bet.
  246. …in reply to @jonbro
@jonbro Had done that with the audio, but it hadn't occurred to me that it would be such a problem with thousands of boring GameObjects.
  247. …in reply to @jonbro
@jonbro Problem is, we have ~50 plants that can be planted, each with about 5-30 states, each as a nested GameObject (with a mesh on each)
  248. …in reply to @jonbro
@jonbro Not actually huge in terms of filesize, but you obviously get killed on any overhead per GO. And plant choice is unpredictable.
