  1. …in reply to @HilariousCow
@HilariousCow @jonbro @raiganburns I didn't even know you could just write GLSL. All the suggestions I have are: optimise it some?
  2. …in reply to @HilariousCow
@HilariousCow @jonbro @raiganburns like, render out intermediate results and use multiple shaders, or... something?
  3. …in reply to @Moranfox
@Moranfox Much later and you start wondering why people are still leaving notes, using typewriters etc.
  4. …in reply to @Moranfox
@Moranfox oh. I think the real reason is that that's when they grew up.
  5. At a loose end today. Does anyone want to meet up and play Divekick?
  6. …in reply to @tef
@tef would also be up for tagging along - let me know (completely forgot about rhe HOG thing, stupid me)
  7. @awesommelier now I've run out of things to put in it, here's a picture of my hair
  8. …in reply to @tef
@tef @marekventur @hyper_linda @russss that kind of time, probably a little later because I'm bad at being punctual?
  9. RT @torahhorse: hate to break it to you but most video games are about moving an invisible capsule into an invisible box
  10. …in reply to @undefined
@Carachan1 @jennatar I'm not Jenn, and I ought to be sleeping. But I'm downloading it.
  11. …in reply to @mcclure111
@mcclure111 sometimes what you want to express is dismissiveness.
  12. …in reply to @mcclure111
@mcclure111 (fucking dangerous ground unless they're your circumstances or problems. Or A Corporation's, of course)
  13. …in reply to @mcclure111
@mcclure111 oh, shit, it's only now that I connect "Jumpman" with the game that is, and with you! That game was good!
  14. …in reply to @dangolding
@dangolding @haikus_by_KN whoa! That TTS speech story is amazing. I mean, also sucky, for many reasons. But also amazing.
  15. …in reply to @squidlarkin
@squidlarkin I have had a job in the games industry and it was pretty okay. Small studio/teams, short projects...
  16. …in reply to @squidlarkin
@squidlarkin basically I recommend working for a company that makes games for marketing purposes, or similar.
  17. …in reply to @edsaperia
@edsaperia yeah! I've been meaning to order one, just need to work out what month I'm going!
  18. …in reply to @undefined
@Carachan1 I just woke up and found it on my iPad. I am entirely unsurprised to find it comes from Justin Smith.
  19. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
    @haikus_by_KN Count me in!
  20. …in reply to @v21
@haikus_by_KN also, there's VMGS if you want a more formal context.
  21. @smestorp Oh yeah, no idea where you'll be up to by Wednesday, but the Rumpeteers are getting together that evening.
  22. @c_hedborg where you at?
  23. …in reply to @TRUTRUTRULUV
@c_hedborg at London Indies! @compositeredfox wants to touch your confidence. Come over!
  24. "Trees are actually kind of gross" @psychictheet
  25. …in reply to @TRUTRUTRULUV
    @c_hedborg @compositeredfox I had a follow up tweet
  26. RT @JamesWallis: Do you have any plans for Sunday? Wrong! You're coming to Lords with us. spaaace.com/cope/?p=668
  27. …in reply to @bfod
@bfod @smestorp I have endless fun with FBO shader/image effects. The trick is to feed in values that the shaders weren't designed for.
  28. …in reply to @philippawarr
@philippawarr Blackbar is lovely, though linear. Strange Rain is super-relaxing, though possibly not a game.
  29. …in reply to @oh_cripes
    @oh_cripes ah-ha!
  30. …in reply to @undefined
@Carachan1 yeah! That game is such fun.
  31. Fuck. We should do like, Twine book group or something. Who's up for that?
  32. …in reply to @undefined
  33. Fuck. I think I will buy some chicken and chips. If it's open.
  34. Good to start your week off right.
  35. …in reply to @patrickashe
@patrickashe I've added it to the list
  36. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN we have Perfect Fried Chicken.
  37. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN (but Stepney Fried Chicken is better)
  38. So, last night I had an idea. Who's up for a London-based, real-life, Twine book club?
  39. …in reply to @narF_snw
@narF_snw so the idea was to get a bunch of people together in real life, and all discuss a Twine game we'd all read beforehand.
  40. London Indies! vine.co/v/h5QaKLngPE6
  41. Eric Cantona! vine.co/v/h5QaZMgPhdT
  42. Re Twine book group - I need a good pun for the name, and I'm barely awake. Any ideas?
  43. …in reply to @Crazyreyn
    @Crazyreyn shit! Of course! Thanks.
  44. RT @Crazyreyn: @v21 Twine Tasting
  45. …in reply to @fernantastic
@compositeredfox @c_hedborg noon! But I still haven't had - I guess that can be breakfast.
  46. Right! I have set up a Google Group to arrange these Twine Tasting evenings. groups.google.com/forum/m/?hl=en-GB#!forum/twine-tasting Where, when and what to play, I think.
  47. Here are some other Twine-based puns:
  48. RT @docky: @v21 Twine Wasting Evening?
  49. …in reply to @higgyC

  50. RT @failnaut: .@v21 Heard It Through the Grape Twine
  51. RT @Yuecake: @failnaut @v21 Whose Twine is it anyway
  52. RT @BaronVonMonster: @v21 Come Twine With Me?
  53. …in reply to @tehNinth
@tehNinth I'll probably put it on there too, but I'm not a fan, so don't want to organise it there.
  54. RT @JamesWallis: Salute the end of the summer by coming to watch some amazing cricket with games people this Sunday: spaaace.com/cope/
  55. RT @LorenzoPilia: @v21 We did a Twine jam in Berlin recently and Time After Time by Cindy Lauper was our official soundtrack http://t.co/ep…
  56. …in reply to @edsaperia
    @edsaperia that'd be great!
  57. …in reply to @iamdanw
@iamdanw That whole thread is depressing. Also, I thought you were talking about the (excellent) videogame at first.
  58. …in reply to @v21
@philippawarr Strange Rain is part experimental narrative, part "raindrops falling on a skylight" simulator.
  59. …in reply to @psychicteeth
@psychicteeth @compositeredfox we're still at the space. @terrycavanagh, were you up for this?
  60. …in reply to @failnaut
@failnaut I have zero authority on the matter, but : yes. And it's the right thing to do.
  61. …in reply to @asponge
    @asponge @JamesWallis I have lots of opinions.
  62. …in reply to @asponge
@asponge @JamesWallis Also @nachimir, of course. And, on the hack-ier side, @jonty and @tef have their heads screwed on straight.
  63. …in reply to @smestorp
    @smestorp @bfod I would chip in.
  64. …in reply to @hannahnicklin
@hannahnicklin what colour is your hair now? (I should put up pictures of my hair these days)
  65. …in reply to @garethbriggs
@garethbriggs @hannahnicklin oh, I actually thought the same...
  66. …in reply to @tigershungry
@tigershungry @patrickashe @c_hedborg @compositeredfox We're gonna head that way soon enough, so you might not wanna come here.
  67. I made the text boxes line themselves up properly. I am happy this is now the case.

@HilariousCow I would like to lose at Dive Kick to you very much.
  76. …in reply to @oopsohno
@oopsohno was I talking about it? Anyway, mathwithbaddrawings.com/2013/06/16/ultimate-tic-tac-toe/ is a good start - I hear there's a bit of a degenerate opening strat, tho?
  77. …in reply to @undefined
@Carachan1 still finding that time I pretended to be a Tory after kissing someone hilarious.
  78. …in reply to @undefined
@Carachan1 I had some mercy, and came clean after about 10 seconds of horror had washed across their face.
  79. …in reply to @failnaut
@failnaut I find having hiccups endlessly amusing, and never try to hurry their passing.
  80. …in reply to @tef
@tef I just feel sorry for all the people who came internationally and don't have data.
  81. …in reply to @kierongillen
@kierongillen But what's magnificent is that he's clearly come to terms with this, his impossible enthusiasm remains undiminished.
  82. …in reply to @failnaut

@EvanBalster FWIW, that isn't my experience. Dicking around with friends is far more correlated to success than hard work, in my experience.
  91. @Carachan1 @compositeredfox @c_hedborg @nachimir @asponge @tigershungry @patashe some kind of social gathering this evening?
  92. @patrickashe wrong Pat Ashe. See previous tweet.
  93. …in reply to @asponge
@asponge @Carachan1 @compositeredfox @c_hedborg @nachimir @tigershungry @patrickashe Do you just want me to say "pub", and be done with it?
  94. …in reply to @asponge
    @asponge @Carachan1 @compositeredfox @c_hedborg @nachimir @tigershungry @patrickashe I'm even happy to name a place and time, if necessary.
  95. …in reply to @D_Nye_Griffiths
@D_Nye_Griffiths I would be enthusiastically pro - that plan -- if I wasn't going to celebrate my friend finishing her dissertation.

  98. @Carachan1 should I bring booze?
  99. …in reply to @undefined
@Carachan1 sure. How much? Also tonic?
  100. Aughmmmghmh salt beef bagels.
  101. …in reply to @mcclure111

  102. …in reply to @mcclure111
@mcclure111 @smestorp again, chiming in to echo mcc. (Will happily look over them)
  103. …in reply to @beckwig
@beckwig will probably go work in Shoreditch, at VMGS during the day - would enjoy getting lunch or something.
  104. …in reply to @beckwig
@beckwig oh cool! The same thing most likely applies then. Quite possibly with a free evening, too.
  105. …in reply to @tigershungry
@tigershungry you could have chips and cheese. If you can find chips and cheese...
  106. …in reply to @HilariousCow
@HilariousCow @docky it's good fun, but not not as razor-sharp.
  107. …in reply to @narF_snw
@narF_snw Of course you can! The more the merrier!
  108. @rclarke I had no idea it existed until this tweet!
  109. Right! The first Twine Tasting will be on Weds 18th. You can RSVP here: twine-tasting.eventbrite.com/
  110. We'll be playing ULTRA BUSINESS TYCOON III by @aliendovecote. Because I think it's great.
  111. So Eventbrite has now become a struggle to use as a way to get RSVPs for events. All this random shit you have to turn off by arcane methods
  112. …in reply to @failnaut
@failnaut making something? Like what? Naw, just play the game.
  113. Oh, and thanks to @edsaperia for providing the venue!
  114. …in reply to @Gillespionage
@Gillespionage There will be more! Waiting til after the first, but thinking of doing it bi-weekly.

  118. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris right, so in practice I think this breaks down into : normal price, and sale prices.
  119. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris Normal price is the most important, obv, and where I would be surprised that MS throws their weight.
  120. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris Sale price is usually why these clauses: so they can match sales on other platforms, mostly.
  121. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris (which is why I brought up wholesale pricing - they can match, and lose their share/loss-lead)
  122. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris (fwiw, Amazon has been doing this with PC games, I think, to build their market share. cc @LewieP)
  123. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris The point being -- you choose how much you're paid, they choose how much they sell it for.
  124. …in reply to @Slaktus
@Slaktus @robertasaliani @therussmorris So on a 70-30 split, they can discount away their 30%, if they have strategic reasons to.

    @oysterFAKE I know! Not mine, though : blame @Crazyreyn
  130. …in reply to @HilariousCow
@HilariousCow Happy to go with cheap if it works better than sophisticated. Though I don't know that I condone that carny's actions.

  133. …in reply to @edclef
@edclef a hoary old (non strategy) example is Minecraft. Everyone's first night stories are the same, but theirs.
  134. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN it is genuinely sold out! Not sure how much more interest there is - could maybe try for a larger venue...
  135. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN and yeah, the appropriation bit has made me think, too. But I think the inspiration was feeling among peers talking about...
  136. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN ... Twine games after 9 Worlds. idk.
  137. …in reply to @KommanderKlobb
@KommanderKlobb @haikus_by_KN if course! but if I'm at that stage the day I announce the event...
  138. …in reply to @KommanderKlobb
@KommanderKlobb @haikus_by_KN not particularly scalable, but it could work a little larger. Always hard to know attendance rate.
  139. …in reply to @haikus_by_KN
@haikus_by_KN @KommanderKlobb don't be silly - it's called Twine Tasting, we're clearly going to get pissed.
  140. …in reply to @KommanderKlobb

  145. …in reply to @edsaperia
@edsaperia Ohhhhhh. Hm. Anything good resulted from that? I will think a little more.
  146. …in reply to @edsaperia

  157. …in reply to @tef
@tef At that level, it's a good step in the right direction. Mind, so is VB.
  158. …in reply to @tef
@tef Aye, agreed-but once you've gotten to the point that you can understand those problems, you're probably ready to tackle a different set
  159. …in reply to @tef
@tef And yeah, I wouldn't pick VB, because it's useful if you learn something that's worth using, not just for the bits that transfer.
  160. …in reply to @tef
@tef Yeah, I think I agree there, too. Not many >10-line Java or C programs have Solved My Entire Problem, but many PHP scripts have.
  161. …in reply to @tef
@tef And speaking as someone who has really enjoyed using Django, PHP is wonderfully easy to deploy.

  167. …in reply to @hollygramazio
    @severalbees Also: woo!
  168. The Oculus Rift is simultaneously a great fit for glitch art (it thrives on sensory overload), but also hard to make glitch stuff for.
  169. It's hard because most stuff happens in "screen space", or uses wrapping, 8x8 square pixels, or generally assumes a square.
  170. With the lack of lateral movement detection, the OR screen space is basically a sphere with some extra depth information.
  171. I don't know how to offset a colour channel 3 pixels to the left in a sphere where pixel density changes depending on where you're looking.
  172. I just noticed that all the blue lines go away if you switch to Interactions and back again.
  173. But then again, there's the joy of doing @xra-style glitching with the view position as an input.
  174. Looking for a new mouse. Any recommendations? Could do with something reasonably RSI-preventing, but it'll also go in a bag a bunch.

@richardhofmeier There's a subtle default here - Youtube plays on load, and everyone is cool with that. As with some games, some music sites

  414. …in reply to @rclarke
@rclarke @LewieP that reason seems off - it's more that neither game has a rating. I raised my eyebrows at this last year, too.
  415. …in reply to @KommanderKlobb
    @KommanderKlobb @Carachan1 it's very scientific.
  416. …in reply to @rclarke
@rclarke @LewieP the site says it's to do with the rating a game gets - and HLM got an 18 (presumably after EG had happened)
  417. …in reply to @rclarke
@rclarke @LewieP aside from the HLM/HLM2 situation, seems weird that being in the 18+ area has more to do with release dates than anything..
  418. …in reply to @LewieP

  431. I do get a bit burnt out on that style of puzzle design, though. It can feel a bit predictable and empty after a while.
