it's worth remembering because it's easy to feel hopeless. but we did that. we can keep doing it.
  58. …in reply to @v21
I mean, also it's definitely worth talking about the huge price people paid for that progress, and how the industry has improved faster at representing women and minorities than it has at looking after the women and minorities who are making the games... but still. progress.

  61. …in reply to @jonritter
@jonritter okay, for real: I code in Typescript, working with node-canvas (which is like the browser API). it outputs SVGs, which I convert to g-code with this github.com/v21/svg_eleksdraw. and then I send the g code to the plotter over a serial connection

I've set up something similar for my generative stuff. Every time I generate an output (very often, when tweaking things), it commits the current directory. Then the generation uses the hash as the seed for any random numbers it needs, and signs the plot with the commit hash.

@lorenschmidt which is fine, and seems to be working. complicated bits: - for closed shapes, connecting back to the start - for open shapes, joining possible fragments together (if we started halfway) - saddles can be part of two lines at once
  183. …in reply to @v21
@lorenschmidt also the whole thing where you operate on cells but the points of the line you're generating are at the edges between the cells. and that the array of cells is one smaller than the array of pixels (in both dims). and whether y is up or not.

  346. slightly wistful that KRZ isn't in development any more. it's been such a presence alongside games for the past 7 years, and now it's out, complete, an entire videogame, a finite thing. (I am glad that the people making it can go on to new and interesting things)

@dannybirchall an issue of a magazine? you know the kinds of things you want, the rough format... but probably you're gonna be moving bits around as they come in, there's dependencies between art & words you'll only really understand after you have them...
  355. …in reply to @v21
@dannybirchall ... as soon as you understand all the problems you need to solve, you're basically done. (where this falls down: magazines usually ship on time, or somewhere near it)
  356. …in reply to @dannybirchall
@dannybirchall yeah! but actually, maybe there a house is a good metaphor again - the house is built but needs maintenance, you decide to move the furniture around, you have a kid and need to redecorate, rooms are repurposed, old techniques (asbestos) turn out to need expensive removal
