Book recommendation: C. L. R. James' The Black Jacobins. A history of the Haitian Revolution, the only successful slave revolt. And written in 1938 by a West Indian and a Marxist, which is an energy you can feel in the book.
-
also, if you're a games theory person and you want to read a book on how sports and culture shape each other, you should definitely read his Beyond A Boundary.

@danfletcher90 @Carter_AndrewJ in the section of Rowling's essay he is responding to there, she talks about the fear of men in M&S bathrooms under their current policy. I would suggest that M&S does not currently have a practical problem determining who should have a legitimate right to use the women's loos.
-
@danfletcher90 @Carter_AndrewJ You can argue her issue was more philosophical than practical, but it reads to me pretty clearly as worrying about the threat of predatory men pretending to be trans women (or just trans women, there is an implicit equivalence being drawn).

@keefstuart angles are equal, so we know that: 100 - (x/2) = x + 31 (subtract 31 from both sides) 69 - (x/2) = x (add x/2 to both sides) 69 = x + x/2 (which is also) 69 = x * 1.5 (divide both sides by 1.5) 46 = x
-
@keefstuart @tanyaxshort x + x/2 => (2x / 2) + x/2 => 3x / 2 => 3/2 x => 1.5x or x + x/2 => 1x + x/2 => 1x + 0.5x => 1.5x

@lorenschmidt this sounds sensible as an approach. depending on how large your state is, you might be able to get away with just storing the full state at each step. or you might be able to find some automatic, CS-y way of deriving the deltas automatically.

-
@AnnaHollinrake I put a lot of the Charli aesthetic down to the PC Music influence, which in turn is coming out of internet art aesthetics (which are usually a bit retro). Molly Soda, Claudia Mate, Fellatia G (though she's probably a bit later in the time line).
-
@AnnaHollinrake it's definitely becoming a more mainstream thing, especially as 3D rendering and greenscreen stuff just gets cheaper and easier to do - another view is this is kinda just what happens when you can fuck around and make stuff with that easily.
-
@AnnaHollinrake aw, nice stuff. another thing I like about this aesthetic is how femme it is, while refusing to just play up to the male gaze. being super glossy, super made up, but often kind of grotesque as well. deliberately playing in the uncanny valley. it's great.
-
@AnnaHollinrake some other interesting stuff from PC Music that maybe relates: GFOTY (who goes hard with her lyrics), QT (fake soda brand put together for a song), SOPHIE (Faceshopping is a better video example, but I can't help linking this one youtu.be/m_S0qCeA-pc)
