my plan for Saturday morning is to go to my friends office, where they're having a side project session, and delete my Twitter account and put up my tweets on my own website as an archive. maybe you want to do this too?

if you're thinking of coming over to Bluesky, here is a list of games people you might want to follow: go.bsky.app/GYnRDJX

not really here any more - mainly on Bluesky instead: bsky.app/profile/v21.bsky.social

Downpour status: it's not currently possible to log-in - seems to be an issue with the authentication provider, I think I have to wait for a resolution from their end.

on this: my advice to young people is to not do a game dev degree. do a coding degree instead & make a few games on the side. games companies will still hire you but you absolutely want other options than to be locked into this industry. @LouisStaples/1823312603159924969

the Patreon change makes me think of the way that Apple's policies prevent experimentation - no more per-creation charging, only subscriptions the way iOS allows. is sexual content allowed on social media? only to the extent the App Store permits it

I use sqlx in Rust and it's got such a good hack at its core. Funny to see the approach spreading. (the hack: want to write SQL but have it be typesafe? it's impossible to write a 100% compatible parser... so just ask the database to evaluate the queries at build time) @giacomo_cava/1821964679415263481

oh I just realised why we use apps rather than this kind of paradigm. it's just Conway's Law - an app is a discrete product for an org to make, but tools have no boundaries @genmon/1821505650456670682

people can find ways to turn any way of communicating on a social platform into a way to spam and abuse other people. this is expensive and difficult to moderate. on the other hand, a minority of users post most of the content that people actually want to look at.

I always think you can tell whether people talking about trans policy are doing it in a reasonable thought through way or in a weird purity/contamination mindset by whether they remember that both trans women and trans men exist and that you should probably treat them equally.

of all the elections i've voted in, i think this is maybe the election where tactical voting feels least necessary? we know the Tories are getting wiped out, so now the real fight is for what politics looks like after Labour's first term.

thinking about how a blur filter is basically the same technology as a generative AI filter. it's just one convolution filter versus 17 of them stacked up on top of each other, weights determined via a formula versus squeezed out of terabytes of training data...

so the complicated thing here is that the image might actually have a tiny bit of AI-based processing done to it. a smart lasso tool, a denoise filter... the boundary of "made with AI" is more porous and socially determined than people realise. @merrph1/1803922150430249100

#PitchYaGame, huh? But I don't want to pitch my own game, I want you to make a game. I even made it easy for you - downpour.games, it's an app you can make a game with. On your phone, in the next half hour, I'm not even exaggerating.
