I just got on the Southwest Chief, a train heading from Los Angeles to Chicago, where I'm going to transfer onto another train and head on to New York, finally arriving 3 days from now, at 6pm.
-
the train is full, and I wish it wasn't. I am trying very hard to not think about the sensation of the old woman next to me's fleece sleeve brushing gently against my arm.
-
despite that, I am excited for this trip. gonna see some ~biomes~ ooh, we're moving!
-
the view right now is passing a Home Depot in the dark, but here's a view as @katbamkapow was driving me to Union Station
-
just ate a $7 microwaved cheeseburger. it was... fine?
-
these names! (cc @klondk)
-
it is 3:36am and the woman sitting next to me is still shifting in her seat or scratching herself (and thus nudging me) approximately every 2 minutes. I got some sleep curled up on some empty seats, but had to leave for people maybe getting on at this stop.
-
some light emerging through trees, approaching Flagstaff
-
it's quite flat here
-
in the dining car for breakfast. had a decent omelet, terrible coffee (but I suspect I'll still prefer it to the tea), and am surrounded by English accents.
-
tragedy has struck: Obra Dinn bugged out & my save isn't working
-
man at the table opposite is having an argument with a young woman. he's making airquotes when saying "scientist", praising Trump for deactivating weather control tech, critizing positive parenting. ooop, there we are, "reverse racism" and onto actual racism.
-
quickly onto "white people were here before native americans", which is getting him yelled at by native americans.
-
i remember growing up, reading The Invisibles, enraptured by conspiracy theories in the New Mexico desert. there's an amount of reckoning to be done there, i reckon.
-
I'm in Chicago from approximately 3pm til 9pm tomorrow. What should I do with that time?
-
now I'm in Kansas. days on the train going this way are about 23 hours long.
-
today has been a lot of golden trees, wide fields, stretches of water
-
occasional flicks past the windows, as the train pulls leaves off the trees as it passes by
-
I have 4 hours to see Chicago now! So far I have learnt: -tall buildings -colder than Albuquerque -has at least one Pret
-
now I am on the train to NY. 20 minutes til departure, and I am expending considerable psychic energies to prevent anyone else from getting on and sitting next to me
