    @alexhern so, active location tracking: more base stations, closer apart gives a higher resolution of where you are. plus beamforming gives a direction from each mast. so phones with 5G can be pretty precisely located by the networks.

      @alexhern passive: stuff like this researchgate.net/publication/336029071_Cooperative_Passive_Coherent_Location_A_Promising_5G_Service_to_Support_Road_Safety - basically, 5G beamformed signals are able to act as radar systems. which is not stuff that's currently being used/rolled out as far as i know, but i am slightly iffy on the infrastructure for that being created.

        @alexhern (there's proof of concepts doing this with wifi signals, too - but that needs a van parked outside your house to track your movements inside. this (i think?) needs firmware/software across the cell network instead)
