    it got me into the habit of never having complete confidence in my assumptions - you gather data, you form a hypothesis, and then you test it. but if that isn't the problem, then you need to question your data, question your hypotheses, work back into ever more unlikely scenarios

      I've carried that attitude into design work, too. maybe I'm wrong! I'm confident enough to be happy moving forward with it - but if someone else's understanding is different, then I want to hear it. everything is a little bit provisional (until it's too late to change it)

        I mean, also I see one of the biggest parts of the role of a (non-solo) game designer being that everyone has something approximating the same idea of what the game is and how it works. So this is a good & obvious thing to be asking.
