      1. Book recommendation: C. L. R. James' The Black Jacobins. A history of the Haitian Revolution, the only successful slave revolt. And written in 1938 by a West Indian and a Marxist, which is an energy you can feel in the book.

    also, if you're a games theory person and you want to read a book on how sports and culture shape each other, you should definitely read his Beyond A Boundary.
