It is hard to tell stories with boardgames because the game is, even more than with videogames, inside the player's head, and given people usually don't like to digest vast quantities of information before playing... you gotta use the stuff that's already up there

this is why you get all those gross stereotypes and colonialism, of course - what Western player doesn't have a load of that stuff in their head, even if they don't, like, consciously agree with it. or think it's good.
