      which you can see, actually - there's something about the aesthetics of early AI generated images, like those dog images, which feel the same as when you do video feedback loops, passing everything through some random convolution filters...

        and that aesthetic strikes something with us, maybe because there's something analogous going on in the eye and in the visual cortex. feature detectors catching on ridges of contrast and sending off a spike to their neighbours.
