Thinking about the last para of nytimes.com/2014/10/26/opinion/sunday/the-disheartening-gamergate-campaign.html?_r=0"a cultured person ought to have an informed opinion on Gone Home or Grand Theft Auto"
-
I've held that aim, or similar, for a while. I've been part of that common cause. But I think maybe it's bullshit, or at least problematic.

Is giving videogames a high culture to go along with it's low culture not just a way to exclude the poor/racist/low class?
-
& you know, I have to be honest: I see the appeal. I am a middle class white boy, and I feel most comfortable around people like me.
-
But if not this fight, then what? I still want to see videogames do new weird stuff, to push frontiers, to open up, to be for everyone.
-
But also I have more appreciation for "gamer culture". In any case, that's where the public is actually meeting videogames.

These thoughts were brewing away before garblegawp : I don't know if they still stand up. But gimblegip wasn't, ultimately, surprising. (:<)
