the speed of light is so usefully human-scaled for really big distances
-
australia is about half a second away. mars is a few minutes away. edge of the solar system... about an hour? other stars are years away.
-
corrections:diameter of the earth is 0.04ish seconds, solar system has a radius of 5hours (or much more - what counts as the edge?)
-
those numbers mean something to me! they're not just 10^x units away.
-
i guess i have a similar many orders of magnitude familiarity with ... distance? and bytes? that's probably it.
