definitely worth reading the article linked there: gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-11-07-video-games-are-boring good thoughts on care, and listening, and games for non-gamers
-
There are people out there making good stuff that non-games people would dig. But it's hard to market to people who don't think they like it
-
The traditional best way to do this is to make something that gamers like. Then use that initial success as leverage for mainstream appeal.
-
Big limiting factor on your designs, though. Or you can hit a specific niche, draw on star appeal from elsewhere. Is "Biophilia" a game?
-
It's easy to lapse into nostalgia for a time when videogames were computer games, and blended fuzzily with other software categories.
-
That conception of games/interactive software is something I try to promote in the now. It's a viable frame! Hard to make mainstream, tho.
-
It's been great to be part of the bot community, and see how many assumptions I didn't realise games have given me.
-
Building these bridges (finding these commonalities) are a big aim of Now Play This, btw. I hope we're helping.

I should also say: we are also making a game that not games people would like. It ships soon! You can buy it here: beastsofbalance.com/
