Unfairly comparing in my head the trans representation in Ladykiller In A Bind and Dream Daddy.
-
Dream Daddy has a line that Canonly Establishes a character is trans. They thought about ~representation~ and did something about it.
-
Ladykiller has The Boy, excited and nervous to be wearing frilly dresses, and also Canonly an insecure manipulative shitbag.
-
(I 100% loved and pursued scenes with The Boy)
-
Representation, like hitting the Bechdel Test or quotas for panels, is good! But it's a imperfect proxy for an actual better world.
-
All of these things are totally susceptible to being Goodhart's Lawed into uselessness en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodhart%27s_law
-
They're still good as a thing you can point people who fundamentally Don't Care or Don't Get It at, and shame them into hitting that low bar
-
But please don't mistake them for the world we're striving for.
