@ithayla @benjanun_s I am slightly surprised to find I haven't read any of hers! Will get on that
  73. …in reply to @v21
personally I think it's the Locked Tomb trilogy, but it is far more concerned with what it's like to endure trauma than with the mechanics of empire and how a system can co-opt you (which is generally what this genre is about)

@LiaSae I dunno, it felt like the places were well realised and imaginative, the magic system is consistent... but it just doesn't have any interest in picking apart societies as a complex system.

  84. …in reply to @DanPugsleySound
@DanPugsleySound the thing where the earbuds know their orientation wrt to the phone (so you can turn around and the audio field stays there) is a cool bit of tech. but yeah, mainly this is about doing deals to get music mixed in the right format.

2 tweets? since each of them is nominally worth a dollar, the price of Bitcoin has really been going up! (this means people use more electricity making more Bitcoin). if someone tried to cash in a lot of Tether, eventually the company would go bust, and Tether would be valueless.
  217. …in reply to @v21
can I explain this in a tweet? Tether is a cryptocurrency which a company creates and promises they will buy back for a dollar. but they have created 59 billion of them & clearly don't have $59 billion. somehow they end up being given away to people who use them to buy Bitcoin.
  218. …in reply to @v21
okay, three, that's pretty good still. and since Bitcoin's price is based on people buying it with $1 Tether, it'd also drop. so: bet on Bitcoin's price dropping, sell Tether Inc a few billion Tethers, and you can make a lot of money & stop people from using a lot of electricity.

@studioanisa it bothers me that it's "vaxxed and waxed", not either of: "vaxed and waxed" "vaxxed and waxxed" okay, no, wait, both of those are worse, never mind
  365. I thought about this too much and unfortunately need to share
  366. …in reply to @studioanisa
@studioanisa I thought about it for a bit and clearly it should be "vaxed and waxxed"

@nicolehe I was wondering how you were doing the packet sniffing! For my Wifi Robots project I embedded libpcap in a native plugin & did monitor mode stuff... which worked, but only on my machine. This sounds less hairy.

@mcclure111 as someone who has spent quite a lot of time and effort to put videogames into High Culture settings, I wish the distinction was meaningless. I should say that I now feel very conflicted about, maybe even opposed to, the aim of making videogames work as high culture.

  393. …in reply to @moynibell
@moynibell I like the Zoom H2N, but it's more designed as a portable audio recorder, and only accidentally a good microphone to have on your desk. But it is - connects via USB, can be switched between narrow & wide recording modes, good quality. Will want a stand & a pop filter, tho.
  394. …in reply to @v21
@moynibell Blue Yeti Snowball is a good entry level USB mic, if you don't want any of that complication.
